About Us

In 2002, I was at an office job that I absolutely hated going to. The work itself was meaningful, but I wasn’t fulfilled. On top of that, I learned that I really disliked office meetings, mostly because it was wasted time and useless chatter. I hated waking up every weekday morning. I was literally sick to my stomach when I awoke and craved Fridays with a passion.

We stress many forms of physical exercise. Meditation is also an active part of our philosophy. Let’s face it- if you work in the Washington DC area, chances are, you have trouble dealing with stress. This isn’t your fault. You simply haven’t been given the proper tools to quiet your mind.

Eventually, I became ill and sought medical attention. I developed a chronic autoimmune disease, ulcerative colitis. I was told that I would be on medication for the rest of my life and that I was predisposed to colon cancer, colon removal, and placement of a colostomy bag. This was a huge wake up call. I knew in my heart that I developed this disease because I was overstressed beyond my body’s ability to cope. I was not happy in my work life and I was not living true to myself. I decided to make a change then and there. I decided that I wanted to get healthy and become a firefighter.

Competition was fierce. I prematurely quit my job before officially being hired, cashed out my vacation, and moved to Alexandria, VA 9 days before the start of my new career. Stress reduction, a nutrition overhaul, and physical fitness cured this so called chronic disease. My last flair up was six years ago and I have not taken any medication since. I am pain and symptom free and I owe it all to making the decision to become fit- not just physically, but emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. By no means am I perfect. I still love and indulge in pizza and an occasional bourbon or stout. But these are exceptions, not the norm.

I owe my health and my life to making drastic changes that made me happier. I’d like to say that it wasn’t easy, but it was- it was easy because I had no other option. When faced with the real consequences of not living true to myself, the only escape is change. That’s why I also became a fitness coach.

I promise you that you will never be alone, but you must be ready to take ACTION first. You will become part of a community that has your back. What are you waiting for?
